The 47-year-old Silva joined the UFC in 2006. He made his MMA debut in 1997. In his UFC debut, he knocked out Chris Leben. Later, he defeated Rich Franklin to capture the middleweight championship. He had a 1-7 slide (with one no-contest) after losing the belt to Chris Weidman at UFC 162, which marked the end of his UFC career. His career was impacted by age and injuries.
