England – Carabao Cup
Date: Wednesday, 29 January 2020
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Etihad Stadium (Manchester).

Manchester City are now unbeaten in their last 16 Carabao Cup matches as they bid to win the competition for a third consecutive season.

Manchester City were in dominant form at Old Trafford and the only surprise was they allowed United a foothold in the tie by not killing the game off, having been 3-0 up at half-time. The first-half performance showed their greater quality, however, and they can seal another Wembley trip with a home win.

Manchester City vs Manchester United Head-to-head (h2h)

  • Five of the last six matches had over 2.5 goals.
  • The last three match-ups in a row were won by teams on the road.
  • Seven of the previous eleven games at this venue had goals from both teams.
  • Since 2010, only twice have Pep Guardiola’s men failed to find the back of the net at this stadium.

Manchester City vs Manchester United Prediction

City are overwhelming favourites to win the EFL Cup for the third successive season and the fifth time in seven seasons.

The last 15 teams to win away from home in the first leg of a League Cup semi-final have all reached the final, the last side to fail to do so being Spurs against Arsenal in the 1986-87 season.

City to go through holds little value at 1/100, but City to win in 90 minutes and both teams to score is more tempting at 7/4. Both sides have scored in five of City’s last seven matches in all competitions, and five of the last six Manchester derbies.

Sergio Aguero has scored eight times in his last five appearances, has nine goals in 14 in all competitions against the Red Devils and is 4/5 to score at any time.

Gabriel Jesus made the most of being chosen ahead of Aguero against Fulham at the weekend, scoring twice in three minutes to take his tally to 16 for the season.

Guardiola is unlikely to start both strikers but with United’s unreliable defence still looking shaky, we can see Jesus also scoring at any time at 21/20.

United are still a threat going forward despite missing their talisman Marcus Rashford through injury.

In his continued absence Anthony Martial will lead the line and he has five goals in 12 EFL Cup appearances for United. He is 18/5 to add to that tally on Wednesday.
